Sunday night (10/14/12) we made a Ham Steak.  Now the recipe called for a 6-8 lb Ham, but being as frugal as I am, I couldn’t bring myself to spend $40 on a Ham!  Yep you read that right $40!  So I opted to just do the 1lb Ham Steak we already had in our freezer.  After all, we were only feeding 2 people, my husband and I!

We took the Ham Steak and thawed it out.  I know the NuWave cooks from frozen, but because the Ham was less weight, I wanted to be sure nothing went wrong! LOL  My husband took the ham and placed it on the lower rack of the NuWave Oven.  It was funny that he didn’t  use any seasoning, after all the last 2 times, we had Steak in the NuWave!

He set the timer and said he’d check it after 5 minutes, he did not want to over cook the ham, like I said it was only 1lb and it was 1 inch thick.  After 5 minutes, he flipped the ham and timed it again.  While the Ham was cooking, I put my hand on the white bottom part of the oven and it was NOT HOT!  I was happy to find that out! :)

I love how you set the timer, it’s all in minutes, so for 5 minutes, you just press cook time 5 and start!  It really is that simple.  I also realized last night that there is a REHEAT button!  So you can reheat things in the NuWave!  The timer is nice and big, easy to read too!

The last 5 minutes, my husband basted or spooned the coke mixture (coke and brown sugar) over the Ham.  Then he set the timer again for 5 minutes.  While he was cooking the Ham, I made the salad and before we started the ham, I had fixed Kraft Grilled Cheese flavored Mac & Cheese.

I can tell you that this was one of the BEST ham steak meals I’ve eaten!  Like I said in my other posts, I believe the NuWave Oven intensifies the taste of the food.  That Coke mixture was delicious on the Ham.  So much so that there were NO left overs! LOL

    I love this one: Lightweight & Portable
    Never even thought to bring it on a boat! Love the idea of having it on trips, in the dorm for the younger crowd, etc. Very cool!

    I learned that it is portable and no preheating is required, which is great. What I love is that the entire item doesn’t heat up.. so no risk of burns just by touching it!

    This is something I learned: The higher temperatures of many conventional grills increase the risk of producing carcinogens. However, the NuWave Oven is designed to cook foods in lower temperature settings (300~342 F) to reduce the chances of possible carcinogen formations but still cook much easier and faster. Nice to know!
